THE RALLY BEGINS

The rally begins Wednesday, September 18 but so much is happening in the background to make this the most enjoyable experience possible. For your convenience a directions link to the fairgrounds website is provided along the right side of this page. The address is also included below.

Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds
17746-D County Road 34 Goshen, Indiana 46528
Some GPS will not recognize this address. If you are having trouble use 1819 East Monroe Street Goshen, IN.

Please follow the directions to best assure a frustration free arrival.

Remember to bring your parking credentials sheet. Place it on the driver's side of the windshield as you enter either gates 3 or 5. Gate 5 is for caravans of more than 3 in the total caravan members. Be certain to also place your caravan group sheet next to your credentials sheet.. You will likely not all arrive at the same time so be patient as the parking crew organizes each group.

Take your time, drive safely and have fun. See you there.

August 2013

YOU’RE STILL NOT REGISTERED FOR GLAMARAMA 2013,
THE GREAT LAKES AREA RALLY?

If you don’t already know, the rally is taking place at the premium rally location, the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen, Indiana. The dates are Wednesday through Sunday, September 18 through 22. Early arrival is Tuesday, September 17, for an additional $25 fee.

The excitement is growing as witnessed by this past week. Registrations grew exponentially as did the number of vendors. In fact vendor building space has maxed out requiring some vendors who requested inside to accept outside vending space.

The same is true for seminar space. Each seminar room is booked Thursday through Saturday. There are seminars many have never experienced before. We know you will find numerous seminars you’ll be very interested to attend. Consider the “Hearing Loss…” as it pertains to RVers, “AED” an automatic Electronic Defibrillator and “What to Expect When You Call 911.” Of course there are technical seminars on RVs, about building websites and working with the newest electronic communication devices and much, much more.

If you’re going to the Rally you only have August 19 to take advantage of the early bird registration rate. Register now or pay the higher rate. Registration is simple. To access the GLAMARAMA registration website click on the REGISTER NOW link on the right side of the page. We look forward to seeing you there.

JUNE 2013

The GLAMARAMA 2013 Planning Committee traveled to Goshen for a complete review of the facilities to assure every attendee will have an enjoyable experience at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairground September 18-22, 2013. The venue has wonderful buildings and open air shelters to accommodate all the events planned. To help preserve those memories and to give GLAMA and other visitors to the GLAMARAMA website a look at a great event a photo history has begun. We hope you enjoy the images and the explanations provided. As part of the support for the local community there will be a blood drive sponsored by GLAMA on the fairgrounds all day Friday. More details to follow.

As with any venue a map with directions has been developed to assure ease of access to the fairgrounds while avoiding as much Goshen traffic as possible. The map will be a part of the confirmation packet mailed to registrants. In addition, it will be posted to this website just prior to the rally.

With so many requests received concerning arrival and gathering procedures for caravanning groups, a plan has been put into place to allow caravans to meet on the fairgrounds on Tuesday or later in order to assure the group is together. Remember, all those parking together should have the same parking criteria, ie. 30 amp and water or full hookup. Specific instructions are part of the confirmation letter. Even if not arriving together, all attempts to park together with friends will be honored as indicated in the message below to chapter presidents from Rich Hahn, Parking Chair. Please note, only one representative from the caravan should contact Rich with the information requested.

To make your registration process easier, please select the REGISTER NOW! Link on the right. The fun is just one click away.

------------------Message from Parking Chair Regarding Caravans-----------------

To all GLAMA Area Presidents

It is with great excitement and anticipation that your GLAMRAMA13 planning committee is finalizing the last arrangements for our first all volunteer Area rally.  As most of you are aware we are trying to allow as much opportunity for area clubs to camp together if they wish.  To accomplish this it will be necessary for you or a member of your club to contact me with the number of coaches, their size and camping hookups desired.  I will make every attempt to keep the clubs together in each of the areas available ie full hookup, 30amp and water and full generator.  For the most part each of these areas is quite removed from each other so if a club desires to be completely together they will need to select the same hook up arrangements.  I would like this information no later than August 20, 2013.

Handicap parking is available in each of the hook up areas but it will not necessarily be associated with your club.  Its focus is on proximity to functions such as entertainment and venders.

I have also been asked where the clubs can meet to organize their entry into the grounds.  We   have a “gather” location on the grounds for your members to meet and disconnect any tow vehicles before entering the holding area.  This area is not suitable for camping overnight so other arrangements should be made if needed.  This area is for caravans larger than three units and should be approached through Gate 5.  For all other single coaches and groups of three or fewer entry through Gate 3 will be used.  Appropriate signs and assistance will be available to guide you through this process.

The parking crew will make every effort to park members as quickly as possible but due to the individual nature of this process we will appreciate your patience.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have.  Your enjoyment during this rally is our main objective and everything possible is being done to assure that outcome. We look forward to seeing you all at GLAMARAMA13.

April 2013

The registration process is in full steam. Emails received from GLAMA chapter presidents suggest a very strong effort to encourage participation from their members. Also, wouldn’t it be grand to have your chapter recognized at the rally for the highest percentage of chapter members attending the rally. In addition you’ll have a great time at a reasonable cost. The process is as simple as clicking on the REGISTER NOW link on the right panel of this webpage.

The rally fee includes four nights of camping (Sept. 18 to 21) with 30-amp power and water hookups (bring extra hose to connect). Full hookups — with 50-amp electric and water and sewer — are available for an additional fee. You also have three nights of entertainment, one breakfast, two coffee hours, seminars, commercial exhibits, new motorhomes, vendor displays, Ladies Tea ($3 per person), and special late-hour tours of the RV/MH Heritage Hall of Fame. Plus: Golf Outing (additional fee) includes cart and lunch.

As part of the entertainment planned for rally attendees’ enjoyment the Frustrated Maestros will perform on Wednesday night in conjunction with the featured performers that evening. The Maestros have also been asked to perform during the coffee and donuts hour, Thursday and Friday mornings, at the ice cream social and the "all you can eat pancake breakfast" on Saturday morning. These volunteer musicians come with a plethora of songs to make you want to sing, dance or just tap you feet. Their colorful attire and entertaining characters that make up the Maestros further enhance the musical experience.

To help educate and inform attendees the Rally Planning Committee has arranged for several seminars related to RV lifestyle such as how to perform CPR, when and how to use a defibrillator, how to safely travel with pets and what to expect when you call 911. An audiologist is planning to provide sessions on hearing and how it relates to motor homing and travel. These are all pertinent topics we all want to be well informed about. Once at the rally your schedule book will provide the times and locations for each of these important seminars.

Remember, early arrivals are admitted to the Holding Area on Tuesday, September 17 ONLY! Setup crews, requested to arrive either Sunday or Monday, September 15 or 16, should bring a copy of that communication to be authorized to enter before Tuesday. If not part of the setup crew arrivals prior to Tuesday, September 17 should seek campgrounds in the surrounding area of Goshen Indiana. Some campgrounds to consider:

March 2013

RVer’s, and those wanting to learn more about the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) way of life. It’s time to take action. On your mark, get set, GO REGISTER!!! for  GLAMARAMA 2013, the Great Lakes Area Motor Coach Association (GLAMA) area rally. Yes, I did say register! You can now register through the FMCA.COM website or, for your convenience, just click on the REGISTER NOW!! link on the right panel of this webpage. Where and when is this grand event you ask? The rally takes place at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen Indiana from Wednesday through noon Sunday, September 18 through 22, 2013. Early arrivals are welcome on Tuesday, September 17 for an additional fee.

What’s the big deal? How about three nights of quality entertainment? We start with Wednesday evening with Daniel Clark “the Singing Trooper.” On Friday night Serah Getto entertains and on Saturday night Harbor Lights, an Acapella Doo Wop singing group performs. All this is led by the professional master of ceremonies, Dane Bailey. Each of their websites is listed below for your ease of review. What else will you get? Coach displays, vendor booths, seminars on numerous topics, crafts, one breakfast, an ice cream social and two coffee and donuts hours. Also, a ladies tea is offered for an additional fee. How about joining in a golf outing for an additional fee which includes a cart and lunch?

What else you might ask? Four nights of camping with unlimited 30 amp electric and water. A limited quantity of 50 amp electric with full hookup is available for an additional fee. If you don’t want electric and water provided at campsite then select FULL GENERATOR PARKING at a reduced rate. Parking with chapter friends is always preferred. The commitment is to try and accomplish that where possible. Of course, coming in as a caravan as early as Tuesday morning best assures that outcome. Also, you will be able to park your tow vehicle next to your RV. This will be especially advantageous for those who have mobility issues. Attendees will be able to drive on designated routes to park near event buildings. Handicap carts are also planned to assist those needing transport to various locations on the Fairground.

But wait! I left out Thursday! No entertainment was planned in order to promote an opportunity for chapters and other groups to spend quality time together. Either spend the time around the rv campsites or visit local attractions, some available both day and evening. The following are some area attractions:

·         RV Museum and Hall of Fame is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  Late hours, though, have been arranged for Thursday evening so rally attendees, spending time with old and new friends can visit the museum.

·         Shipshewana Flea Market is open every Tuesday & Wednesday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

·         New World Arts located at 211 S. Main St, Goshen is presenting the play “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett.  It is being held from 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM daily from Friday, Sept 13 through Saturday, Sept 21st.  There is a $10 admission fee.

·         Fall Harvest Days at Amish Acres in Nappanee is open daily from Sept 16th through Oct 31st.     While there check out the 200 scarecrows that return to the farm for their annual reunion to stand guard along the lane to the Pumpkin Patch.  Details can be found at: Event Details - Fall Harvest Days 2013  and Event Details - Scarecrow Contest and Reunion

·         Other Amish Country Events can be found at:  Events in Elkhart County, Northern Indiana
